PANDEF to intervene in Ex-Militant Leader’s House Bombing

THE PUNCH

THE Pan Niger Delta Forum said on Tuesday that it would intervene in the disagreement among former militants of the Niger Delta, which led to the bombing of the house of their leader, Paul Ehis, also known as Ogunbos.

Recall that for the second time in a week, some ex-Niger Delta militants had invaded Peremabiri community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, razing over 20 houses.

The latest attack happened on Sunday, January 3, 2021, was targeted at Ogunbos, whose house was reportedly bombed, while the former militant leader escaped through the backdoor.

It was gathered that the gunmen were agitated that their leader abandoned them in the creeks.

The Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the invasion of Ogunboss community.

But speaking in an interview with The PUNCH, PANDEF spokesman, Mr. Ken Robinson, urged the former fighters not to resort to violence in resolving their differences.

“We have not reached out to the stakeholders in the community to ascertain what really happened. In the interim, our appeal is that it is obviously not an issue that has to do with restiveness in the Niger Delta.

“We have seen that it is a minor internal disagreement between team members. We will reach out to the people to maintain peace.

“There are elders in the region that can intervene if there are issues among them. Our appeal is that they should not resort to violence,” Robinson said.
